Central Florida Zoo

Animal Enrichment Systems (AES) would like to recognize Beth Pascazi and Jeremy Langeneck for their generous donation in support of the automatic feeder for Central Florida Zoo’s Black Bears.  Beth was even able to come to the Zoo to help deliver this new device personally.   Donations like theirs make it possible for AES to keep making enrichment devices for many species. Their donation not only funded the parts and materials for the bear feeder but will kick start a project for the Zoo’s primates and African Crested Porcupine as well.

Black Bears, Guignard and Ella, enjoyed investigating their new enrichment and even set off the motion sensor on their first try!   The bears will have fun figuring out they are in charge of enrichment by activating the system using the motion sensor that dispenses snacks in their habitat.   This will encourage their natural foraging behavior.

We are going to deliver the black bear environmental enrichment device (EED) to Central Florida Zoo’s black bears in early April!

We set up the device in our driveway to test the motion sensor (see short movie)   This EED will be placed outside the black bear habitat   It will have a standalone motion sensor that the bears can walk past to activate the blower to scatter zoo approved treats/snacks into their habitat to encourage natural foraging behavior. #centralfloridazoo

Meet Guignard and Ella, the resident black bears at Central Florida Zoo:

Guignard and Ella will soon be able to interact with a new enrichment device. Their EED will feature a motion sensor they can walk in front of which will set off a blower to scatter zoo approved food into their habitat. This will encourage natural foraging behaviors. There are lights on the EED to let the keepers and bears know when the device is active. The motion sensor is stand alone and can be moved to different locations in their habitat.

The ambassador animals are being desensitized/acclimated to the cart. Eventually the cart will be wheeled around the zoo so guests can meet ambassador animals.

Here’s the Critter Cart we designed/built for Zoo Tampa on 5/15/23 delivery day

The folks at Zoo Tampa have been busy covering the perches to make them feel and look like branches and they are painting gorgeous images on the exterior of the cart itself.  They are not done yet but we sure like the progress so far!
